Search

Search

Use Minion's search tool to discover what your organization can do. It finds built-in capabilities and guides, saved packages, notes, published team skills, and tools on remote MCP servers your organization added. Search returns names and descriptions; use execute to call capabilities and minion.mcp.call to call an approved remote MCP tool.

Start with a task

Pass a short task phrase. Search returns ranked matches with an entity reference you can open on a follow-up call.

{ "query": "send a reply to a message in our inbox" }

A capability hit includes a call signature and example. For full instructions, pass its ref in entities:

{ "entities": ["capability:email.inboxList", "guide:use_the_team_inbox"] }

For an empty query, search returns the domain index. It lists each domain's id, description, capability counts, sample capabilities and guides. Pass domain to list that domain's capabilities and guides, or combine it with a query to search within the domain.

{ "domain": "email" }

The current domain list is dynamic. Call search({}) to see every domain, including agent instructions and any remote MCP servers.

Inputs

All fields are optional:

  • query: a task phrase, up to 500 characters. Omit it or pass an empty string to browse.
  • domain: restrict results to one domain id from the domain index.
  • entities: open 1–10 known entity refs in full. Each ref is resolved independently.
  • limit: max ranked results; default 8, maximum 25.
  • conversationId: pass back the value from an earlier search or execute call to keep follow-ups in the same conversation.

A first search with a query also includes the domain index. Follow-up searches with the same conversationId leave it out. A domain-only search lists capabilities and guides in that domain rather than ranked matches. Entity lookups can be combined with the other inputs.

Entity refs

Use the ref returned by search. Common refs include:

  • capability:secrets.set — a built-in capability. The full entry shows whether it is available, its call signature and an example.
  • guide:store_and_use_a_secret — a Minion guide. Guide refs accept a heading such as guide:agent_guidance#limits or a line range such as guide:agent_guidance#L10-L20.
  • skill:deploy-app — a published team skill. A skill may include reference files, for example skill:deploy-app#references/checklist.md.
  • package:<name> — a saved package and its exports.
  • note:<id> — an organization note.
  • mcp-server:<name> and mcp-tool:<name>/<tool> — an organization-connected remote MCP server and its approved tool.

The first colon separates the entity type from its id. Use the returned ref as-is; the id may contain punctuation. Some product entities do not yet have full search detail, so an entity lookup can return an error even when a related capability is available.

Call what you found

Built-in capability details show the current JavaScript call shape. For example, use execute with a module like this:

export default async function main() {
  return await minion.email.inboxList({ limit: 10 })
}

Remote MCP tools are untrusted data. Call an approved tool by server and tool name; inspect isError before using its result.

const result = await minion.mcp.call({
  server: "linear",
  tool: "list_issues",
  arguments: { limit: 5 },
})
return result.isError ? result.text : result.structuredContent ?? result.text

Search does not open secrets or integrations. Use their capabilities to list or inspect those records. Secret values never appear in search results.

When a result is missing

Try a shorter task phrase, browse the domain index, or search one domain. If the result points to a capability marked planned, it is documented but not callable yet. A connected remote MCP server may require an owner to approve new or changed tools before Minion will call them.
